\n It\u2019s a small backyard, backed up against a steep hill. But the architect created three different areas. The fireplace area is flanked by trees on both sides and a little bit elevated. That feels like a little outdoor living room. The lower area to the right, that\u2019s like the outdoor kitchen. Then there is another area like a dining room where we put the table to eat\u2026 We\u2019ve had people over and you have some gathering in front of the fireplace, others sitting around the table, and maybe I\u2019ll be over at the grill. You have three different areas where people can hang out in a pretty small backyard. The other thing that I think he did that we hadn\u2019t even thought about is lighting. At night when you\u2019re entertaining, there\u2019s light bouncing off the ground or the walls or the fireplace to create a little glow, but without it being overly bright. It looks very appealing at night, too.\n <\/div>\n

\n Our landscape architect had this vision about looking outside from inside the house. Where does your eye lead you? And so, from almost all angles inside the house, you\u2019re looking at the wood fire oven or the stone bar top or the fire table. It\u2019s a vision about where things are placed so that your eye naturally goes there. So, even with such a small backyard, the way they used different hardscapes, it gives the impression of different rooms\u2026 Before the renovation, we really did not use the backyard. We had a table out there and I can remember eating out there maybe once or twice in the two years before we had this done. Since then, we eat outside every chance we get.\n <\/div>\n
